Deaconess Danelle Putnam, Serving the Lord in the Dominican Republic

Guest Deaconess Danelle Putnam serves the Lord in the Dominican Republic as a developmental disabilities outreach missionary. Learn more about Danelle’s work at lcms.org/putnam.

Read a snippet of her bio here: Deaconess Danelle Putnam serves the Lord in the Dominican Republic as a developmental disabilities outreach missionary. Danelle’s work includes reaching out in various ways to people with developmental disabilities and their families who care for them. One way the local church is reaching out is through a home called Good Shepherd Lutheran Homes (Hogares Luteranos el Buen Pastor). Currently, six orphans with developmental disabilities are cared for at this home. With her ministry, Danelle works to provide the often lacking help and training needed in the Dominican Republic for those with developmental disabilities and/or their families. She also reaches out, sharing the message of salvation through Jesus and providing them with opportunities to continue to study God’s Word and become part of a church family. The goal is then to identify and train Dominicans to be able to minister mercy themselves to people with developmental disabilities. Read more at lcms.org/putnam.

The Oromo Evangelical Lutheran Mission Society (OELMS) reaches Oromo-speaking immigrants in the US, an ethnic people group from Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia. If you haven’t had Associate Executive Director's Andy Bates’s smoked mac and cheese from scratch (yes, including the noodles), you’re missing out on a magical food experience. Although he’ll gladly go venturing through the woods in his Vivobarefoot Trail Freaks (those are shoes), he’ll also stay happily busy automating every possible thing in his home while eating cherry cheesecake brownies made by his wife, Lauren. As a Theatre major, don’t ask him to pick a favorite play, but you may find him hanging out with his adorable son watching Trolls or listening to bluegrass or the latest audiobook on biomechanics.
