In this Hymn Sing episode, Sarah makes a long-overdue foray into hymns for and about baptism.
Beginning with an unexpected set of poll results from the Lutheran Ladies’ Lounge Facebook group, Sarah goes on to relate the backstories of several crowd favorite baptism hymns. Which of these water-and Spirit-drenched hymns does Sarah most love? Which does she not love so well?
Hymns covered in this episode include “Father Welcomes” (LSB 605), “We Know That Christ Is Raised” (LSB 603), “Baptized into Your Name Most Holy” (LSB 590), “Dearest Jesus, We Are Here” (LSB 592), and “All Who Believe and Are Baptized” (LSB 601).
“Our newest goddaughter was just born 2 days ago from the day of recording,” says Sarah, “and she’ll be baptized in a couple weeks, so baptism is spinning in my brain right now!” And as a treat at the end of the episode, hear Village Lutheran Church in Ladue, MO, sing her goddaughter’s baptism hymn, “I bind unto myself today” (LSB 604) at her baptism.
