God’s first command was to be fruitful and multiply. Yet many “nice” Christians avoid talking about sex for fear of shame or embarrassment. This session will take an honest and open look at sex in the Digital Age, including emerging technologies that make human sexuality a difficult terrain to navigate. Conversational and informative, the session will draw on scriptural and theological insights that remind us of our purpose as creatures of the Creator and the unique gift of sexuality–a gift that requires discernment, care, and ultimately, faith.
Bio: Dr. Joel Oesch has been a Professor of Theology at Concordia University Irvine for ten years. Prior to that, he was a Director of Christian Education for congregations in Hawaii and Texas. He has always been intrigued by the relationship between theology and culture, particularly forms of culture that are digital in nature. Dr. Oesch is the author of “Crossing Wires,” a book about the relationship between technology and Christian identity. He loves hunting, fishing, and reading…but when he’s not doing that, he’s probably enjoying time with his wife and four kids in southern California.
