Today Pastor Tanner Wade looks at the readings for The Fifth Sunday after Pentecost, Series A in the Three Year Lectionary. We look at the lectionary readings for the weekend of July 4th and 5th, in it we find that though sinful we are a people of hope, a people that has received the gracious gift of a Savior in Christ Jesus. In particular, Zechariah 9 points out who the Messiah will be and what He will bring to the Earth, our Gospel reading from Matthew 11 proclaims the Good News of the rest that is found only in Christ as that promised Messiah, and our Epistle reading of Romans 7 points out that while we may not do that which we desire to do in accordance to God’s will, thanks be to God that He has delivered us from the body of death through the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
